I did my presentation with my group today. I would say it was one of the most embarrassing, dreadful experiences in my school life, but along with that I learned new things that I know will help me excel in doing presentations in the future classes Mr. Paterson teaches.
First, I looked back on the video my friend was taking of my team/me presenting, and noticed how stiff we are. I was trying a little bit to be aware of how I use my arms to make it look like I was talking more freely, but I kind of got uncomfortable in a way and even I started getting nervous. Then I was corrected on how I, the mouth should introduce the group and each member, for a more professional way of presenting. This also lets the audience know that we, as a group are close and good at working together, by the mouth saying the member’s first names to sound more friendly with each other. Finally, I knew front the start our communication in our group was beyond terrible. It felt and looked so unnatural when we were passing around the speaking one to another. This is probably because we never once did practice with a projected, or as a group. Everything felt so awkward inside of our group, but that was the point of us three coming together. To learn who each other is like, and to try communicating and solving problems together one at a time. I am saying the most obvious thing right now, but no matter how good you are on your own, in a group presentation you must learn how to communicate and work with each other, even if you hate them or like them because that’s how you achieve something together.
In conclusion, my first presentation was a complete mess. I learned the hardships and flaws I and my group have together, but because of this presentation, I was able to open my eyes clearly and see the problems that were in the way of us becoming better at presenting. These problems can be fixed, with a whole lot of practice, and a whole lot of determination.
