I was not able to cover the other characters that appear in the story except for Percy, so I would like to inform you a little about who Annabeth is. She is a demigod of Athena, and she has appeared in the previous series by being a friend of Percy's and going alongside his quests. By the end of the previous series, they become a happy couple, and then Percy suddenly disappears, and a Roman demigod, Jason appears in his place to try and combine forces of both camps together. The chapter starts with them on a magical ship Annabeth and her friends named the Argo II and is not far from reaching the Roman Camp.
Annabeth is pacing the deck of their ship, checking and double-checking everything. She reviewed the plan with the rest of her friends, along with the backup plan, for when things didn' go well with the Romans. Everything seemed to be in order, but she kept on feeling a mysterious chill, maybe it was because she was nervous... She couldn't stop second-guessing herself, but there was no turning back now.
The thick clouds surrounding them and their ship suddenly broke, leading to it revealing the marvelous camp in the distance. The camp was at least twice the size of her home camp, Camp Half Blood, and it was filled with so many landmarks. Jason had told her about this place, New Rome, and she could recognize them clearly, the hippodrome, the coliseum, the temples, colorful villas, and flowering gardens. You could see the Romans beneath them gawking at their ship, and as if just on time, horns could be heard blowing, notifying them that they know about their presence.
Suddenly, there was an explosion behind her. When she looked around, she came face to face with what looked to be an angry statue. Jason tries reasoning with the statue, which we learn has the name of Terminus, the god of boundaries, but prevents them from descending further into New Rome. Being quick-witted Annabeth, she asks Terminus, if there is no rule against hovering over New Rome, and with this, the demigods use a rope ladder to reach New Rome.
I felt that this chapter showed a lot of results. What I mean by this is that from the previous two books, they had created the ship throughout the whole entire story, so it just cut off how everything went afterward. I was excited that they were finally able to reach New Rome, and they are just a step further from talking and becoming allies with the Romans. I enjoyed how everything was written in great detail, from how the Argo II was crafted to the scenery of New Rome. I liked how each chapter is given a narrator, and we are really able to see how this character feels from a third-person point of view, and this I feel the same about the previous books as well because they are written in the same format. I think it gives it a unique change and because of this, you get to read the writings of the different characters in their own spotlights, not just the main protagonist.
