Notes:

voting~

・age you can start voting is 18

・foreigners should have the right to vote, seeing as they are paying the same amount of taxes as normal citizens→could create a law that enables foreigners to vote after residing in the country for a certain amount of time(3 to 5 years?)

・the right to vote as a citizen of the country should not be removed depending on if you have lived in another foreign country and have been outside of the country for a period of time

・there should be a set term limit

・citizens should be able to directly vote for the top person(president, prime minister, etc.)→this ensures that there is not too much power at the top(so that a dictatorship does not form) and that citizens' votes are accurately reflected 

taxes~

・taxes should be higher for entertainment expenses(manga, instruments, etc.)

・taxes should be lower for everyday necessities(food, clothes, certain genres of books, etc.)

・healthcare should be free for every citizen→could have a program that has everyone do a certain service for a period of time, meaning they are serving the country back(in various ways)

Since yesterday, we were divided into 3 separate groups and started a discussion about how we would want to create our country. There are numerous factors that are significant to creating a country, but we mainly focused on the voting system and taxes.

For the voting system, we decided that 18 would be the most appropriate age for citizens to start voting. We wanted to value the meaning of being 18 years old; completing high school and maturing into an adult. We also thought that it should not be lower than 18 years because it is a significant decision and right, and we should utilize the time throughout high school to educate students thoroughly about the political system. We also thought that foreigners should be able to earn the right to vote since they are contributing by paying taxes just like normal citizens. Furthermore, the right to vote should not be taken away from a citizen if they were born in that country. Whether that they have lived outside of the country, it should be a permanent right that should be respected. We also thought that there should be a set term limit for how long the top person has power over the country. 

We also discussed about how the taxes should be set, and decided that it would be best if the everyday necessity items would have lower taxes so they would be more accessible for everyone. We also thought it was significant to have a free healthcare system, and citizens could take part in programs/certain services so that they are also giving back to the country, making it fair for everyone.

It was difficult to think of the laws needed in order for a country to operate, since many new issues came up when we decided on one law, which made the conversation go on endlessly. I cannot imagine how countries are created, but I felt it was simply a repetition of trial and error. In our world, what is considered right or wrong has altered, and I think the laws of the country have also adjusted to these changes. Even the laws that are permanent today could one day be regarded as something that is incorrect, so I felt that it is significant for countries to be flexible with their rules and be considerate of new perspectives.

PR Photos (4/21/21)

In today's class, we first were told we had 7 minutes to take an appealing photo to promote our school. When doing so, there were various tactics to make the school's photos look professional or interesting to best attract new students. Prior to doing so, we were explained some bad examples of places to take pictures. First was an old building that used to actually be a pool, but the exterior made it look like an abandoned building with weeds and vines growing everywhere. Next, we were taken to look at the library. Personally, I think the inside of our library would be suitable for taking pictures, but then I could not say the same for the outside. The library has big windows, but with all of the blinds closed, you would not be able to tell that the inside is a library through a photo. The Mark Of Athena (Chap. 5-8)

Chapter 5 (Leo) The ship was badly damaged. Leo wished he could create a time machine to go back two hours and undo what had happened. What he had done. When explaining what had happened to Annabeth, he tells her that he couldn't control whatever had possessed him. It just felt like he was watching himself do things. Annabeth asked him if Octavian had tricked him, but Leo knew he clearly had done everything. As much as Octavian was a jerk, he wasn't the cause of it. He told Annabeth that he had felt a cold feeling, and with that, Annabeth almost seemed scared.  Annabeth was called down belowdecks from Percy, who was with Piper and caring for Jason.
